Big Discounts on Big Shows! See Dance for Life and Hubbard Street for Half Price

184243_10150154993633408_4693820_nDance for Life is a great tradition in Chicago Dance that I’ve never been to. I’m all for a good cause, but when even the nosebleeds are too expensive I take a pass and hope for a more abundant pocketbook next year. After all, is this sort of Gala performance really intended for dancers? Or is it more suited for wealthy patrons of the arts who can shell out a few hundred dollars and not think twice.

This season, DFL actually wants dancers to see their show. This discount code will score you half price tickets on (what I’ve heard is) a really excellent show:

Oh, wait, you thought I’d actually just tell you?

You’ll have to work for this discount…. here’s how: Follow me on twitter @artintercepts and tweet me to send you the code. If you aren’t on twitter, well, you should be, but a Facebook message will work too. While you’re at it, follow Dance for Life, too.

And about that good cause, proceeds from Dance for Life benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago the Dancers’ Fund and Chicago House.

The always classy Hubbard Street Dance Chicago made a few big announcements the other day in anticipation of its 36th season. New works by Resident Choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo and recent Princess Grace Fellowship winner Robyn Mineko Williams, and new dancers in the upcoming season are made more exciting by the fact that you may actually be able to afford to see them, too.

Let me explain…

Single tickets for HSDC go on sale this coming Monday at 10am, and for 48 hours, they are offering $48 tickets (get it? 48 for 48?).

This is huge. The promotion, strategically placed beside an appearance at the Chicago Dancing Festival (more on that next week), means more than a 50% discount on any of Hubbard’s four shows at home.

So let me say all that again:

Tweet me for your discount code to Dance for Life, then mark your calendar for 10am Monday. Essentially, you’ll see two really amazing shows for the price of one. Like BOGO, but for amazing dance instead of cheap shoes.

Dance for Life takes place Saturday, August 17, 8pm (Gala at 5pm) at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University (50 E. Congress Pkwy). Full price tickets are $50-75 available online or at the Auditorium Box Office. Single tickets for season 36 of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago go on sale Monday, August 19 at 10am. Tickets are $48 for 48 hours using the code INSIDER. For the season line-up or to purchase, visit http://www.hubbardstreetdance.com/36.
